PROJECT DESCRIPTION
ROBOTICOMP proposes a revolutionary construction technique based on timber robotics, 3D printed concrete and self-assembled structures. The technique consists of construction blocks (units) made of a timber-concrete composite that are robotically manufactured and have self-assembly capabilities. This means that instead of requiring construction or assembly works, these blocks just acquire the shape of the building/roof when packed together and lifted with a crane. The blocks are composed of two layers. The first, lower, layer is made of timber and serves as skeleton. The second, upper, layer uses the first layer as support for 3D-printing and is made of sustainable concrete. The two layers are connected, so that they work symbiotically together as a composite. This technique is expected to generate a near-zero embodied carbon supporting composite structure, of high durability, very high structural efficiency, near-zero waste, and overall an extremely-rapid and construction method. ROBOTICOPM is expected to serve as the flagship development project of this revolutionary construction idea, including from all fundamental research up to reaching 3 demonstrative prototypes, including a demonstration house, building ampliation and roof replacement.
